- Scientific Theory
-
An explanation that has been tested by repeated observations.
THEORIES:
Must explain things SIMPLY, and CLEARLY.
Must be repeatable (RELIABLE).
Should be able to use the theory to make PREDICTIONS. - Scientific law
- States a repeated observation about nature. Often times a law is accompanied by a mathematical formula.
- Scientific Method
-
A tool used by scientist to gather information and formulate explanations. Often it is described by steps, however, these steps are part of a dynamic problem solving process and are only guide lines.
"Steps": Formulate question, hypothesis, design experiment, gather data, analyze data, form conclusions. - Variable
- A factor to be considered in an experiment.
- Control
- A basis for comparison in an experiment.
- SI Units
-
System Internationale Units
These units are standard units of measure for scientists. - Length
- Distance between points.
- Volume
- The amount of space occupied by an object.
- Mass
- Quantity of matter in an object
- Weight
- The force with which the earth's gravity pulls on an object.
