A percent is a ratio that compares a number to 100.
Difference
The amount that remains after one quantity is subtracted from another.
Equivalent fractions
Equivalent fractions are fractions that name the same amount.
Formulate
To formulate is to invent or come up with (an idea, plan, or explanation.)
Line Graph
A line plot is a graph that uses an "x" for each piece of data and places it on a number line.
Graph
Drawings or diagrams that show information, usually about how many things.
Absolute Value
The absolute value of a number is its distance from 0 on a number line.
Term
Each of two quantities in a ratio or a fraction:
Variable
a letter that stands for a number.
Supplementary angles
Supplementary angles are two angles which have a sum of
Rate
A rate is a ratio that compares two quantities measured in different units.
Positive Integer
Whole numbers greater than zero.
Quadrant
The x- and y-axes divide the coordinate plane into four regions called quadrants
Divisor
A number which is to be divided into another number.
Tax
A tax is an involuntary fee paid by individuals or businesses to governmental entity.
Corresponding Sides
In congruent shapes, like the triangles shown here, the sides AB and XY, BC and YZ, and CA and ZX are corresponding sides.
Scale factor
The ratio of a distance measured on a scale drawing to the corresponding distance measured on the actual object.
Expression
Combination of numbers, variables or constants, and operations. There is no equal sign in an expression.
Quotient
The answer to a division problem.
Power
A power is a number that can be expressed using an exponent.
Terminating decimal
A terminating decimal is a decimal that ends.
Bar Graph
A graph that uses horizontal or vertical bars to represent various kinds of information.
Vertical Axis
The side axis on a graph that goes up and down.
Irregular Figure
a combination of two or more partial or complete figures.
Formula
a rule that shows the relationship between two or more quantities.
Portion
A part or something less than the whole.
Decrease
Make smaller by subtraction or division
Translation
is a transformation that moves every point of a figure the same distance in the same direction.
Factor
A factor is a number that can be multiplied.
Parenthesis
The operation(s) to do first in order of operations.
Dividend
A number that is to be divided by another number.
Prism
a three-dimensional figure with two parallel and congruent polygonal faces, called bases. A prism is named for the shape of its base.
Additive Inverse
Two numbers whose sum is 0
Stem and Leaf Plot
A stem-and-leaf plot is a graph that uses the digits of each number to show the shape of the data. The value of each piece of data is broken into a "stem" (digit or digits on the left) and a "leaf" (digit or digits on the right).
Exponent
An exponent tells how many times a number, or base, is used as a factor.
Independent Events
Two events are independent events if the occurrence of one event does not affect the probability of the occurrence of the other.
Better buy
The item whose unit price is the lowest.
Perfect square
A perfect square is a number that is the square of a whole number. It forms a square.
Tip
The tip is an added percentage to a total.
Range
The range of a set of data is the difference between the greatest and the least values.
Transformation
is a change of the position, shape, or size of a figure.
Measure of Central Tendency
The three measures are: mode, median, and mean. They usually fall in the middle of the distribution and tell us certain facts about it.
Simplify
Make simple. Write in the simplest form.
Opposites
Opposites are two numbers that are the same distance from 0 on a number line, but in opposite directions. They are also called zero pairs.
Proportion
A proportion is an equation stating that two or more ratios are equivalent.
Similar
The same in shape but not in size. Two shapes are similar if the corresponding angles are equal and the corresponding sides are proportional.
Repeating decimal
A repeating decimal is a decimal that repeats without end.
Estimate
A rough or approximate calculation.
Area
The area of a figure is the number of square units it encloses.
Square root
A number that, when multiplied by itself, produces the given number.
Origin
The origin is the point of intersection of the x-and y-axes on a coordinate plane.
View
A way of visualizing a solid from the top, side, and front.
Circle Graph
A circle graph is a graph of data where a circle represents the whole.
Discount
The difference between the original price and the sale price of an item is called the discount.
Mode
The mode of a data set is the item that occurs with the greatest frequency.
Horizontal Axis
The horizontal axis is the bottom axis on a graph.

Integers are the set of positive and negative whole numbers
Convert
To exchange or replace with another, usually of the same kind or category.
Median
The median of a data set is the middle value when the data are arranged in numerical order
Solid
a figure with three dimensions, usually length, width and height (depth).
Scale
is the ratio that compares a length in a drawing to the corresponding length in the actual object.
