- Heredity
- the passing on of traits from parents to child
- Traits
- The characterisitcs that are passed from generation to generation
- Gametes
- sex cells
- Fertilization
- the uniting of male and female gametes
- Dominant Trait
- The trait which masks all others
- Recessive Trait
- The trait which is masked by the dominant gene
- genotype
- The gene combination that an organism contains
- phenotype
- The way in which an organism looks and behaves
- homozygous pair
- both alleles are the same in the gene pair
- heterozygous pair
- two alleles differ from each other
- Law of Segregation
- During meiosis, gametes genes are seperated, then they ramdomly pair during fertilization
- Law of Independent Assortment
- Genes for different traits are inherited indepdently of each other
- Law of Dominance
- Dominant genes will mask over recessive genes. The recessive trait will only show when bothe genes of the pair are recessive
- Hybrid
- offspring formed by parents haveing different forms of a trait
