- Heredity
- The transmission of traits from one generation to the next is called inheritance.
- Variation
- offspring differ somewhat in apperance from parents and siblings
- Genetics
- the scientific study of heredity and hereditary variation
- Asexual Reproduction
- A single individual is the sole parent and passes copies of all its genes to its offspring
- Clone
- a group of genetically identical individuals
- Sexual Reproduction
- Reproduction in which two parents give rise to offspring that have unique combinations of genes inherited from the gametes of the two parents
- Life Cycle
- The Generation-to-Generation sequence of stages in the reprductive history of an organism from conception to production of its own offspring.
- Somatic Cell
- any cell other tan a sperm or ovum.
- Karyotype
- A method of organizing the chromosomes of a cell in relation to number, size, and type.
- Sex Chromosomes
- one of the pair of chromosomes responsible for dermining the sex of an individual.
- Autosomes
- A chromosomes that is not directly involved in determining sex, as opposed to a sex chromosomes.
- Gametes

A Haploid cell such as an egg or sperm.
*Gametes unite durin sexual reproduction to produce a diploid zygote - Haploid Cell
- A cell containing only one set of chromosomes
- Fertilization
- the union of haploid gametes to produce a diploid zygote
- Zygote
- The Diploid product of the union of haploid gametes in conception : a fertilized egg.
