- Estates-General
- A legislative assembly of representatives from the estates of the nation, as opposed to a provincial assembly.
- Urbanization
- to make or cause to become urban, as a locality.
- Congress of Vienna
- an international conference (1814-15) held at Vienna after Napoleon's banishment to Elba, with Metternich as the dominant figure, aimed at territorial resettlement and restoration to power of the crowned heads of Europe.
- Night session of August 4th
- A night where the national assembly voted to remove some of their rights to make the peasants happy
- National Assembly
- A house in the French government during the French Revolution
- Guerilla Warfare
- sudden unexpected attacks carried out by an unofficial military group or groups that are trying to change the government by assaults on the armed forces
- Sans-Culottes
- a revolutionary of the poorer class: originally a term of contempt applied by the aristocrats but later adopted as a popular name by the revolutionaries.

- the process by which arable farming in open field systems was ended

- A law that says the Catholic church is under state control

- A bunch of citizens stormed a guarded fortress to show there anger with the government
- Directory
- the body of five directors forming the executive power of France from 1795 to 1799.
- Women's March on Versailles
- 6,000 women marched to versailles from Paris, to show the king how bad the economy had gotten
- Steam power
- mechanical work using steam as its fuel
- Textile industry
- industries primarily concerned with the design or manufacture of clothing as well as the distribution and use of textiles.
- Domestic system
- a manufacturing system whereby workers make products in their own homes with materials supplied by entrepreneurs.
- Louis XVI
- King of France (1774-1792). In 1789 he summoned the Estates-General, but he did not grant the reforms that were demanded and revolution followed. Louis and his queen, Marie Antoinette, were executed in 1793

- An important document, stating that all classes have the same rights
- Tennis Court Oath
- An oath signed by the third estate that they would keep meeting until a new constitution was made
- Balance of Power
- a distribution and opposition of forces among nations such that no single nation is strong enough to assert its will or dominate all the others.
- Continental System
- the blockade of Great Britain ordered by Napoleon by the decree of Berlin, Nov. 21, 1806; the object being to strike a blow at the maritime and commercial supremacy of Great Britain, by cutting her off from all intercourse with the continent of Europe.
- Robespierre
- French revolutionary. Leader of the Jacobins and architect of the Reign of Terror, he was known as an austere and incorruptible man. His laws permitting the confiscation of property and arrest of suspected traitors, many of whom were guillotined, led to his own arrest and execution without trial.

- A radical republican during the French Revolution.
- Bourgeoisie
- the class that, in contrast to the proletariat or wage-earning class, is primarily concerned with property values.
- Agricultural revolution
- revolutionizing the agriculture
- Luddites
- Any of a group of British workers who between 1811 and 1816 rioted and destroyed laborsaving textile machinery in the belief that such machinery would diminish employment.
- Reign of Terror
- a period of the French Revolution, from about March, 1793, to July, 1794, during which many persons were ruthlessly executed by the ruling faction
