- memory
- hardware that stores computer processing instructions and information.
- bookmark
- an Internet software feature that allows you to place an electronic bookmark on a page so you can easily revisit the page.
- database
- a software program you use to organize, find, and display information (or data) in many different ways.
- speaker
- allows you to hear voice, music, and other sounds from your computer; may be built into the computer or separated pieces of equipment.
- keyboard
- a common input device that allows you to communicate to a computer; includes letters, numbers, symbols, function keys, etc.
- arrow keys
- keys with arrows on them you use to move the insertion point up, down, left, or right.
- scanner
- an input device used to scan or turn pictures and documents into groups of dots or pixels using a light source.
- a software feature you use to print copies of a document.
- graphics
- a software program you use to enhance documents with pictures and images.
- mouse
- a hand-held input device you use by rolling it over a flat surface (pointing, clicking, and dragging).
- keyword
- one or more words typed in a search box in order to search for matches on the Internet.
- virus
- any software program that destroys information or makes it difficult to use the contents of a computer disk; may damage, software, or stored information.
- modem
- hardware that allows your computer to communicate with other computers over phone lines.
- tab
- a key you use to move the insertion point to a preset position. (Example: indenting a paragraph)
- clip art
- a gallery or collection of graphic images or pictures that you can add (or clip) to documents.
- tool
- usually a button on a toolbar in a graphics program used to draw shapes like rectangles and circles or text boxes.
- attachment
- an e-mail software feature you use to send (or attach) a document or file with an e-mail message.
- download
- the process of transferring programs or information from one system to another.
- desktop publishing
- a software program you use to enhance and create documents like newsletters, flyers, and brochures.
- wordwrap
- the automatic wrapping of text from the end of one line to the beginning of the next line.
- monitor
- a screen similar to a TV screen you use to view information.
- disk drive
- hardware that reads from, writes to, and holds computer disks.
- num lock
- key used to operate the numeric keypad.
- interactive
- the ability of software to help you react and make choices (or interact) as you use a software program.
