- Economic Interdependece
- Dependece of countries on goods, recources, and knowlege from other parts of the world.
- Literacy Rate
- The value of the ability to use language-to read, to write, to speak, and to listen.
- Communism
- A socio-economic system in which means of production are in the hands of the government, economic decisions are made by a central authority, and there is an equal distribution of income and wealth.
- Republic
- A state that is not led by a hereditary monarch, but in which the people have inpact on its government.
- Male-Female Income Disparity
- (Also known as the gender gap.) The ratio of female to male earnings among full-time, year-around workers.
- Life Expectancy
- A measure of the avarage life span. Refers to the expected age to be reached before death fer a given human population.
- HIV Rate
- (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) A virus that atttacks and destroys a person's immune system until it is not able to fight off infection.
- Capitalism
- A socio-economic system in which property is privately owned and goods are privately produces for profit.
- Developed Country
- A country that is technologically advanced and that enjoys a relatively high standard of living.
- Exports (Trade)
- Goods sent to markets outside a country.
- Theocracy
- A form of government in which a "god" is recognized as the supreme civil ruler.
- Imports (Trade)
- Goods brought into a country.
- Monarchy
- A form of government in which there is a hereditary head of state (wheather as a figurehead or as a powerful ruler).
- Quality of Life
- The overall enjoyment of life. The measure of an individual's sence of wellbeing and ability to perform various activities.
- Developing Country
- A country that is poor and whos citizens are mostly agriculture workers with a relatively low standard of living.
- The United Nations
- An international orgaization of nations pledged to promote world peace and security, and cooperate in further social progress.
- Democracy
- A political system in which the supreme power lies in a body of citizens who can elect people to represent them.
- Infant Mortality Rate
- The number of children dying under a year of age divided by the number live births a year.
- Dictatorship
- A form of government in which the political power is held by a single self-appointed ruler (dictator) who holds power by force.
