- agenda
- a list or outline of actions or issues to be considered at a meeting during a specific block of time
- audience reaction team
- Four or five participants query the main speaker from the stage with questions from the audience and follow-up questions
- break-out session
- small discussion groups that work together on a specific task after the whole group has received similar instructions or information
- buzz group
- a large audience is divided into small groups in the same room and responds to assignments
- Certified Speaking Professional
- Accredited designation offered by the National Speakers Association. This designation is earned for extensive, documented speaking experience and client satisfaction.
- CODEC
- Compression/Decompression or Coder/Decoder. Videoconferencing standard, included in hardware and/or software, used to compress or code video, audio, and data signals for transmission and decompress or decode the signal at the other end of the transmission.
- colloquium
- academic meeting at which one or more specialists speak about a topic and answer questions
- concurrent session
- sessions occurring at the same time
- Conference
- meeting of 2 or more people to discuss a common concern
- Continuing education
- structured educational and training experiences for personal or professional development.
- controversy panel
- to stimulate interest and debate, two or more views of a controversial issue are presented
- convention
- an assembly of people meeting for a common purpose.

- debate
- A discussion which takes place within a meeting, a public or private sitting or in one of the various types of assembly or meeting.
- demographics
- statistical characteristics, such as age, occupation, income level, etc.
- DSL
- Digital subscriber line
- educational programming committee
- usually a voluntary group that has a vested interest in program content
- evaluative learning method
- tests whether attendees learned what was expected and whether they can use the information effectively
- exit interview
- evaluation of a member when he or she leaves an organization
- expository learning
- way of leering whereby the instructor presents to the learners, who remain passive as they watch and listen
- facilitator
- Expert who guides discussion and/or decision making in small groups
- fishbowl
- This is an interchange between an inner circle debating and issue and an outer circle of observers. Individuals occasionally move from one circle to the other.
- Focus group
- method of doing research using a small group led by a facilitator

- (Integrated Services Digital Network) - A set of protocol and interface standards that make up an integrated (voice, video, data) telephone network
- keynote speaker
- one who presents the issues of primary interest to a group of people
- kiosk
- 1)Free-standing pavilion or light structure, 2) A small enclosure for ticket sales, information, surveys, etc.
- meeting
- A general term indicating the coming together of a number of people in one place, to confer or carry out a particular activity. Can be on an ad hoc basis or according to a set pattern.
- meeting manager
- persons whose job it is to arrange every aspect of planning and conducting a meeting or convention
- minutes
- notes containing the most important information from a meeting and a detailed list of action items and contacts
- moderator
- person who presides over an assembly, meeting, or discussion
- needs analysis
- an organized planned process of identifying needs

- panel discussion
- instructional technique using a group of people chosen to discuss a topic before an audience
- participatory learning
- occurs when the participants share knowledge and experiences and work together to learn
- personal interview
- qualitative data collection method whereby a trained interviewer asks individual a list of open or close-ended questions
- planning matrix
- a grid used to plan meeting formats and finalize subject areas, topics, and assignments
- plenary session
- general assembly for all meeting participants
- poster session
- visual materials are posted in a logical format and a presenter is scheduled to discuss the display
- presenter-discussant format
- a panel of three or four experts in certain subject areas are identified, with each giving a brief presentation followed by discussion among panelists and questions from the audience
- program committee
- a volunteer committee charged with responsibility for planning, organizing, and delivering conference content
- program development
- planning that takes place before a meeting regarding its specific content and format
- qualitative data
- usually takes the form of words rather than numbers and is descriptive in nature
- quantitative data
- usually takes the form of numbers that allow for mathematical calculations
- questionnaire
- a printed set of questions used to gather information
- random sample
- a sample in which the probability of selection for each member of the population is equal
- resource workbook
- usually a loose-leaf binder in which additions and deletions are made as the program develops
- Return on Investment (ROI)
- A gain or loss as a result of an investment
- roundtable
- discussion among up to 12 people centered on a key topic on which at least one of the people is an expert; a meeting room arrangement in which round tables are set throughout the room, each with a discussion leader
- sampling
- a research method based upon selecting a portion of a population for study
- seminar
- 1) Lecture and dialogue allowing participants to share experiences in a particular field under the guidance of an expert discussion leader. 2)A meeting or series of meetings of from 10 to 50 specialists who have different specific skills but have a specific common interest and come together for training or learning purposes. The work schedule of this has the specific object of enriching the skills of the participants.

- an individual stimulates certain behavior, which can be examined, studied, and discussed by the attendees

- An organization that locates and books speakers
- structured questions
- eight or 10 questions prepared in advance of a session and distributed to selected attendees who ask the question at the end of the conclusion of the presentation
- survey
- a printed set of questions used to gather information (questionnaire)
- symposium
- A meeting of a number of experts in a particular field, at which papers are presented and discussed by specialists on particular subjects with a view to making recommendations concerning the problems under discussion.
- timeline
- includes each task to be accomplished and is the core of the program plan
- tip
- A voluntary and selective amount given at will for excellent service.
- Webcast
- An event that broadcasts the audio and/or video portion of a keynote presentation or other educational sessions over the Web in real-time or on demand.

- academic instruction may set the stage for small-group or workshop activities that employ such techniques as role playing, simulation encounters, give-and-take sessions, and problem solving laboratories

- common question format that uses standardized response questions
- mean
- the numerical average
- open-ended
- type of question format in which respondents are asked to communicate a response in their own words
- optical character recognition (OCR)
- data collection technology that utilizes scanning equipment to record pencil or pen marks and converts them into usable computer information
- population
- the total of any unit under consideration in evaluation
- purposive sample
- any sample selected based on someone's expertise about the population
- report
- summary of statistical information and an analysis of what it indicates about a meeting
- sample
- any portion of a population selected for a study
- semantic differential
- a question format in which the respondent selects a response between two opposite terms
- simple random sample
- method of sampling in which each member of the population has an equal chance of being included in the sample
- stratified sample
- method whereby a population is divided into similar groups and then each group is then randomly sampled

- rate at which new information is presented and amount of time allowed for the student to take in that information

- audiovisual guidelines by which no transparency or slide should contain no more than six lines of text and no more than six words per line
