- archipelago
- chain of islands or set of islands grouped together. ex: Aleutian Islands of Alaska
- peninsula
- an area of land almost completely surrounded by water except for an isthmus connecting it with the mainland. ex: Italy, Florida, Iberian Peninsula
- thematic map
- A map that displays the spatial distribution of an attribute that relates to a single theme. ex: soil type, vegetation, geology
- strait
- a narrow passage of water connecting two large bodies of water. ex: Strait of Magellan
- projections
- A formula which represents the curved surface of the earth onto the flat surface of a map.
- source
- the beginning or place of origin of a stream or river.
- physical map
- a map showing identifiable landmarks such as mountains, rivers, lakes, oceans, and other permanent geographic features
- hemisphere
- Half of the earth's surface. There are four hemispheres, Northern and Southern (divided by the equator) and the Eastern and Western (divided by the Prime Meridian and 180 degrees longitude).
- oasis
- a small fertile or green area in a desert region, usually having a spring or well.
- delta
- the often triangular-shaped area at the mouth of a river. ex: Nile Delta in northern Egypt

- is a long, narrow inlet with steep sides
- plateau
- area of highland, usually consisting of relatively flat terrain.
- isthmus
- a narrow strip of land, bordered on both sides by water, connecting two larger bodies of land.
- symbol
- a letter, figure, or other character or mark used to designate something
- political map
- a representation of a country's territories, boundaries, and capital(s) on paper or other material
- tributary
- a stream that flows to a larger stream or other body of water.
