- The prevailing winds that blow over the middle latitudes.
- westerlies
- Precipitation that occurs as an air mass moves upward over mountains or mountain ranges.
- orographic precipitation
- Region with plenteous grass but few trees.

- Hot, rising air.

- The amount of water vapor in the air.

- The meeting of warm and cold air masses.

- The vegetation of tropical areas with a long dry season; displays grasses and scattered trees that are drought resistant.

- Basic path of water flow within an ocean.

- The plants in an area or region.
- vegetation
- A rolling grassland area, particularly of Central Asia and eastern Europe.
- steppe
- The point at which water begins condensation.
- dew point
- A large geographic area that contains a particular group of plants and animals and has a specific physical environment
- biome
- The vegetation regions of cold climates displaying little vegetation other than mosses, lichens, and similar small plants.
- tundra
- A slight warming of the water over a wide region of the Pacific that periodically affects the earth's climate.
- El Nino
- A tree that produces its seed in a cone.
- conifer
- A large area of air that has a similar temperature and moves together.
- air mass
- A circular pattern of ocean currents.
- gyre
- Any form of moisture that falls from the atmosphere, such as rain, hail, snow, and sleet.
- precipitation
- Precipitation that occurs when an air mass warms and rises rapidly, then cools to the dew point as it gains altitude.
- convection precipitation
- Ground that remains permanently frozen even though the top few inches may thaw during a short summer.
- permafrost
- The rotation of the earth around its axis that greatly influences wind direction.
- Coriolis effect
- Plants that shed their leaves before a period of dormancy.
- deciduous
- The common northeasterly winds of tropical regions.
- trade winds
- The process of water changing into water vapor.
- evaporation
- A cycle whereby water evaporates from oceans, lakes, the soil, and so on, to form clouds that in turn precipitate water to the earth.
- hydrologic cycle
- The usual temperature, precipitation, and wind conditions of a certain area.
- climate
- The changing of water vapor into liquid.
- condensation
- Water that has seeped into the earth's crust and is held below the surface of the earth.
- ground water
- Lacking moisture
- arid
- The time from the last killing frost of spring until the first killing frost of fall.
