- supercomputers
- largest and fastest computers, capable of storing and prcessing tremendous volumes of data
- microcomputer
- sometimes called a personal computer; used at home or at the office by one person; can fit on top ot under a desk
- computer
- electronic device that recives data, processes data, stores data, and produnces a result.
- hardware
- the tangible, pysical computer equipment that can be seen and touched
- sender
- computer that sends a data transmissions
- software
- intangible set if instructions that tells the computer what to do
- electronic message sent from one persons computer where it is stored intil read by the receiving person
- notebok/laptop computer
- similar to a microcomputer, however, it is small, portable type of computer
- personal digital assistance (PDA)
- also called a palm-top computer; a small, portable type of computer
- internet
- the largest network used as a communication tool
- information appliance
- a device that focuses on handling a particular type of information and related tasks. Typical devices could be an ipod or MP3 player, a handheld gaming console, and so on
- receiver
- computer that receives a data transmission
- network
- connects one computer to other computers and periphera devices
- mainframe computers
- large, powerful computers that are used for centralized storage, processing, and management of very large amounts of data
- smart phone
- any electronic handheld device the functions as a mobile phone as well as a personal digital assistant (PDA) or other onformation appliance
- data
- information entered intom the computer to be processed that consists of text, numbers, sounds and images.
