- Sender
- Computer that sends a data transmission.
- an electronic message sent from one person's computer to another person's computers where it is stored until read by the receiving person.
- Minicomputers
- Type of computers that is designed to serve multiple users and process significant amounts of data; larger that a microcomputer, but smaller than a mainframe.
- Network
- Connects one computer to other computers and peripheral devices.
- Personal Digital Assistant (PDA)
- Also called a palm-to computer; a small, portab;e type of computer.
- Smart Phone
- any electronic handheld deveice that functions as a mobile phone as well as a personaldigital assistant (PDA) or other information appliance.
- Microcomputer
- Sometimes called a personal computer; used at home or at the office by on e person; can fit on top o runder a desk.
- Receiver
- Computer that receives a data transmission.
- Data
- Information entered into the computer to be processed that consists of text, numbers, suonds, and images.
- Notebook/Labtop Computers
- Similar to a microcomputer; however, it is smaller and partable.
- Mainframe computers
- Large, powerful computers that are used for centralized storage, processing, and mangement of very large amounts of data.
- Computer
- Electronic device that receives data, stores data, and produces a result.
- Supercomputers
- Largest and fastest computers, capable of storing and processing tremendous volumes of data.
- Hardware
- The tangible, pyhsical computer equipment that can be seen and touched.
- Information appliance (IA)
- a device that focuses on handheld a particular type of information and related tasks. Typical devices could be an ipod or MP3 player, a handheld gaming consol. and so on.
- Internet
- the largest network used as a communication tool.
- Software
- Intangible set of indtructions that tell the computer what to do.
