- layers panel
- panel describing separate layers for opacity, hue/saturation, etc so one can delete/alter existing layers
- stroke
- measured in pixels, this technical term refers tot he border applied using foreground color of an image (one could imitate shade of flower to make matching border)
- feather
- gently blurring the edges of the selection, then moving entire altered image to new project
- magic wand tool
- selects and imitates specific colors within the picture and make color corrections
- lasso tool: polygonal
- draws straight lines in a selection mask
- merge visible
- this action allows editors to merge different layers of changes and combine them into a single layer
- opacity
- "transparency" assigned to different tools, layers, or colors; higher percentage, more opaque, lower, more transparent
- quick mask mode
- used for isolating certain parts of picture so editors can move/remove them
- marquee tools
- selection tool where one can select using rectangles, ellipses, or row/columns
- lasso tool: normal
- draws freeform style mask around subject
- history panel
- window that allows photograph-editors to remember what alterations they performed on a photo (each change, redeye, etc is documented)
- sharpen tool
- opposite of blue tool, accents edges within a photograph and clarified selected pixels
- blur tool
- a tool that blurs the edges [or wherever you drag the mouse]; reduces detail by decreasing the level of sharpness
- crop
- tool that can "cut off" the selected edges of a photo; used for determining size, resolution, and visualization of photo
- red eye tool
- tool that specifically targets and eliminated the famous "red-eyes" so familiar within flash pictures
- layer mask
- masks are specific selections of a photo that you can edit, hide, and protect from the rest of the picture
- lasso tool: magnetic
- selected objects with well defined edges
- clone stamp tool
- this tool imitates a specific characteristic of selected pixels to spot-treat any imperfections in the photo
- healing brush
- tool for fixing imperfections within photo; can imitate lighting, texture, and shading of selected pixels
- filters
- a number of optional alterations for a photo, ranging from nearly any art style [painting, pastels, charcoals, etc] and a myriad of other textures/styles
- transforming
- tool for number of actions including: resizing, rotating/skewing, reshaping
