- Annexation of Texas
- Texas decides to secede from Mexico and attempts to declare its independence which eventually leads to our adoption of the land as a state although it was feared that it would cause conflict with mexico leading to war. Southern states in support of this as Texas brought slaves with it meaning it would increase agricultural profits
- Highway act of 1956
- was enacted on June 29, 1956, when a hospitalized Dwight D. Eisenhower signed this bill into law. Appropriating $25 billion for the construction of 40,000 miles (64,000 km) of interstate highways over a 10-year period, it was the largest public works project in American history to that point.
- Louisiana Purchase
- 530 million acres of land purchased in 1803 under Thomas Jefferson which opened significant possibilities for westward expansion of the continent

- the trend of consolidation of economic power into smaller powers and that larger and more concentrated company powers would continue to grow

- 19th Century belief that the United States had a mission to expand westward to spread its for of democracy and freedom

- those who were in favor of industrialization because they believed that wealth was a sign on responsibility and well deserved power

- Eisenhower's reference in his farewell speech that refers to the composition of a nation's armed forces, its suppliers of weapons systems, supplies and services and its civil government
