- Suppressor T cells
- The type of T cell that controls the immune response.
- Cell-mediated immunity
- Protection from infection provided by T cells
- Humoral immunity
- Protection from infection provided by antibodies
- Antigen
- The foreign element that triggers the immune response.
- Memory cells
- B lymphocytes that do not become plasma cells but remain dormant until reactivated by the same antigen.
- Antibodies
- Proteins secreted by plasma cells that aid in defense against infectious agents.
- Cytotoxic T cells
- One of several types of T cells, often called killer cells because of their capabilities to kill invading organisms.
- T lymphocytes
- One of two types of lymphocytes that provide cell-mediated immunity and is processed by the thymus gland.
- Helper T cells
- One of several types of T cells, they help the immune system by increasing the activity of killer cells and stimulating the supressor T cells.
- Lymphatic system
- Body's immunity it consists of a complex network of thin-walled capillaries carrying lymph fluid, nodes, and organs that help maintain the internal fluid environmental of the body.
- B lymphocytes
- One of two types of lymphocytes that provide immunity.
- Immunoglobulins (lg)
- Antibodies; bind to foreign antigens and provide protection from infection.
- Activated lymphocytes
- White blood cells that have been stimulated by antigens which include B and T cells.
- plasma cells
- Cells that develop from B cells and produce antibodies.
