- all of the populations of different species that live and interact in an area

- biosphere
- part of the earth where life exists
- herbivore
- a consumer that eats plants
- carnivore
- a consumer that eats meat
- omnivore
- a consumer that eats both meat and plants
- scavenger
- animals that eat the bodies of dead animals
- food chain
- a diagram that represents how the energy in food molecules flows from one organism to the next
- food web
- a complex diagram representing the many pathways in a real ecosystem
- energy pyramid
- a diagram shaped like a triangle that shows the loss of enerbgy at each level of the food chain

- a symbiotic relationship in which one organism is benefited and the other in unaffected
- parasitism
- a symbiotic relationship in which one organism benefits and the other is harmed

- a long term chage that takes place in 2 species because of their close interactions with one another
