- a property that is sometimes used to identify minerals

- the smallest particle of an element
- compound
- a pure substance that is made up of two or more elements combined together
- filtration
- a method of seperating the parts of a mixture based on the size of the pieces
- condensation
- changes of state from a gas to a liquid
- solution
- a mixture that appears to be all one substance
- evaporation

- a method of seperating the parts of a solution and recovering both the solute and the solvent
- suspension
- a cloudy mixture of clumps of a solid or droplets of a liquid scatterd throughout the mixture

- a change in matter in which no new substance is produced
- filtrate
- the part of the filtrate that passes through the filter
- chemical change
- a change in matter that produces one or more new substances. (new substance has different properties)
- residue
- something that remains, in filtration it's the part held back by the filter
- mechanical mixture
- a mixture in which two or more parts can be seen with the unaided eye
- magnetism
- the property of a mineral that attracts a magnet or a compass
- soluble
- able to dissolve
- insoluble
- unable to be dissolved
- solute
- the material that is dissolved in a solution
- solvent
- the material in which a solute dissolves in to become a solution
- element
- a pure substance that cannot be broken down into any other pure substances
- molecule
- a particle made up of two or more atoms joined together
