- Adaptation
- Any characteristic of an organism that makes it better able to survive in its environment
- Biogenisis
- The theory that living things come only from other living things.
- Cell
- The smallest unit of an organism that can perform life functions.
- Control
- The standard for comparison in an experiment.
- Development
- All the changes undergone by living things as they grow.
- Homeostasis
- The regulation of steady, life-maintaining conditions inside an organism or cell, despite changes in its environment.
- Hypothesis
- A prediction that can be tested.
- Law
- A rule that describes a pattern in nature and what will happen under specific conditions.
- Life Span
- The legnth of time an organism is expected to live.
- Organism
- A living thing that is made up of one or more cells and is organized to perform life functions.
- Response
- The reaction of an organism to a stimulus.
- Scientific Methods
- Problem-solving procedures used by scientists. Define problem, gather data, draw hypothesis, perform experiment, analyze data, and draw conclusions.
- Spontaneous Generation
- The theory that nonliving things produce living things. This was believed for much of history.
- Stimulus
- Anything an organism responds to, such as sound, light, heat, vibration, movement, etc.
- Technology
- The use of scientific knoledge to improve the quality of human life or to solve problems.
- Theory
- A description of nature based on many observations and subject to change when evidence changes.
- Variable
- The factor tested in an experiment.
- Chemistry
- The study of elements and matter.
- Physics
- The study of how energy and matter are related.
- Earth Science
- The study of the structure of Earth and the forces that affect it.
