- a talented singer and musician from Baghdad. He settled in Cordoba in 822. The established Europe's first music school. Musicians from Asia and Africa came to cordoba to learn from him

- one of the most important muslim cities was the Abbasid capital Baghdad. When the Abbasids rose to power, the caliph al-mansur decided to move his capital away from damascus. It took over 100,000 workers and many years to build the new capital. It was nicknamed the "round city"
