Behavior modification program: Generic
Specify Target Behavior Gather baseline data: controlling antecedents; determine initial level of response; id potential controlling consequences Design your program: increase or decrease strength of response Execute and evaluate program
Behavioral modification: study habits
Specify your target behavior: Too easily distracted when studying. Gather baseline data: Initial level of response; Controlling antecedents; identify possible controlling consequences: How often am I distracted; When am I most easily distracted (reading, note taking, using the computer for schoolwork); Why do I keep allowing myself to be distracted (it's more fun than studying, material is sometimes boring & complex; housework needs to be done). Design your program: Strategies to increase or decrease response strength: To increase: Set up reinforcers & contingencies: I get to spend 30 minutes on Facebook after 2.5 hours of focused studying or I must finish my work by a certain time before reading a book for pleasure. To decrease: Reinforcement (as above), Control of Antecedents (Read in a room with no computer or TV, Unplug Internet when using computer.) Punishment: No glass of wine if checklist not completed... Execute and evaluate your program. Behavioral contract or someone else to help with punishments and reinforcers.
4 mnemonics: name describe example
Acrostics & acronyms: phrase where first letter of each word(King Phillip Charles ordered fancy green shorts-for bio. classification) acts as a cue to help you remember items or a word (Roy G. Biv)formed from the first letters of a series of words Rhymes: using a poem (or song) to help recall the information: "thirty days hath september," "The preamble song from schoolhouse rock." Link method: visual method that involves forming a mental image of the items to be remembered in a way that links them together: image of a news figure on a magazine shaving with a pen while being photographed Method of loci: imaginary walk along a familiar path, where images of items to be remembered are associate with certain locations. Various loci on path serve as cues. Ex. wine in the basement, cereal & canned goods in the pantry; milk & eggs in the fridge; fruit on the dining room table.
Phobia
UCS: One night camping, a pack of raccoons surrounded my pup tent and slammed up against it, and in the morning my sneakers were chewed in half or missing. Also, another time camping in a small tent, alone this time, raccoons were climbing all around the trees over my tent. UCR: Really scared of raccoons & their teeth. CS: Both experiences happened while I was camping in a small pup tent. CR: I do not like to be in small tents anymore. Phobia could be eliminated if I camped in successively smaller tents with no raccoon activity.
