- Utility Program
- A program designed for general support of the processes of a computer. eg a firewall, anti virus software, disk repair.
- Command Driven Interface
- Allows a person to interact with a computer but they have to type in the commands.
- Driver
- A program that determines how a computer will communicate with a peripheral device
- Operating System
- A suite of programs that control the hardware and the software running on the cmputer, allowing the user to communicate with application programs & periheral devices. Whether you load or save a file, access the inter ect the operating system is involved in working in the backround.
- Error Reporting
- A message that has identified a problem within your computer. Creates a pop-up telling you what error has occured when one has occured. Example - if a program is not responding, or if the printer is out of paper.
- File Management
- Manages the files eg - adds a new folder, rename a folder, put files in order.
- GUI
- Graphical User Interface.
- Software
- Software refers to the programs and data used by a computer. There are two types of sofware 1) Application software eg word proccessing. 2) System software eg operating system.
- Memory Management
- The operating system places progams and data into memory. The opening and closing of programs is memory mangement.
- WIMP
- Window, icon, menus & pointer.
