- Constituents
- a citizen who is represented in a government by representatives that they elect
- Lobbyist
- people that are paid by interest groups to influence congress by taking court action, drafting legislation, and helping the interest group take action
- Public Opinion
- the voice of the people, or the opinion
- Expressed Powers
- powers of congress listed in the constituion
- Proportional Representation
- representation based on population, utilized in the house of representatives
- Committee
- a group of senators or congressmen that are experts on a particular subject
- Interest Group
- a group of citizens who officially organize themselves around a particular issue or purpose
- Elastic Clause
- congress has the power to make all laws "necessary and proper"
- Supremacy Clause
- states that the constitution and federal laws are the "supreme law of the land"
- Filibuster
- when a senator opposing a bill talks for so long that the amount of time runs out for that bill to be passed and the bill is dropped
