Lobbyist
people that are paid by interest groups to influence congress by taking court action, drafting legislation, and helping the interest group take action
Public Opinion
the voice of the people, or the opinion
Expressed Powers
powers of congress listed in the constituion
Proportional Representation
representation based on population, utilized in the house of representatives
Committee
a group of senators or congressmen that are experts on a particular subject
Interest Group
a group of citizens who officially organize themselves around a particular issue or purpose
Elastic Clause
congress has the power to make all laws "necessary and proper"
Supremacy Clause
states that the constitution and federal laws are the "supreme law of the land"
Filibuster
when a senator opposing a bill talks for so long that the amount of time runs out for that bill to be passed and the bill is dropped
