- skeleton
- Type of connective tissue that provides support and protection for your body
- marrow
- the soft tissue that fills the internal spaces in bone
- red marrow
- Soft tissue inside the compact bone that produces red blood cells
- yellow marrow
- the soft tissue inside the compact bone that mainly stores fat. Helps to nourish the bone
- spongy bone
- Small cavities which contain red marrow
- cartilage
- connective tissue that is more flexible than bone and gives support to some parts of the body
- joint
- place where two bones come together
- ligament
- strong connective tissue that holds the bones together at the movable joint
- osteoporosis
- a condition in which the body's bones become weak and break easily
- fracture
- a break in a bone.
- sprain
- an injury in which the ligaments holding bones together are streched out to far and tear
- dislocation
- an injury in which a bone comes out of its joint
- x-ray
- a form of energy that travels in waves that can pass through some living tissues, but not through bone
- magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- a method for taking clear images of both bones and soft tissue in the body
- tendon
- strong connective tissue that attaces a muscle to a bone
- involuntary muscle
- a muscle that is kept under conscious control
- smooth muscle
- Involutary muscle found inside many internal organs in the body
- skeletal muscle
- a muscle that is attached to the bones of the skeleton
- cardiac muscle
- muscle tissue found only in the heart
- acne
- a bacterial infection of the skin in which the oil glands become blocked and swollen
- cancer
- a disease in which some body cells divide uncontrollably
- follicle
- structure in the dermis of the skin from which a strand of hair grows
- pore
- an opening through which sweat reaches the surface of the skin

- a pigment that gives skin its color
