- Meridian
- A line of longitude
- Degree
- A unit of measurement of temperature or of distance on the earth's surface
- Island
- A landmass smaller than a continent and completely surrounded by water
- Legend
- An element of a map that explains what the symbols on the map represent; also called a "key"
- Atlas
- An organized collection of maps in one book
- Compass Rose
- A directional indicator that has arrows pointing north, south, east, and west
- Continent
- One of seven large landmasses on Earth
- Scale
- An element of a map that indicates distances between points on the map
- Equator
- An imaginary line that circles the globe halfway between the North and South Pole
- Mental Map
- A map we create and see in our minds to help make sense of the world
- Longitude
- A measure of distance east or west of the prime meridian
- Great-Circle Route
- The shortest between any two points on Earth
- Prime Meridian
- An imaginary line that runs through Greenwich, England from the North Pole to the South Pole
- Ocean
- The largest part of Earth's water surface, often divided into four smaller oceans
- Parallel
- A line of latitude
- Directional Indicator
- An element of a map that shows which directions are north, south, east, and west
- Grid
- The pattern of lines that circle the globe in east-west and north-south directions
- Hemisphere
- Half of Earth, such as the Northern or Southern Hemisphere or the Eastern and Western Hemisphere
- Globe
- A scale model of earth
- Map Projection
- One of a variety of ways of presenting a round world on a flat map
- Latitude
- A measure of distance north or south of the equator
- Map
- A flat diagram of all or part of Earth's surface
