- Embryology
- The study of the 38-week prenatal period is called embryology. Embryology helps one understand the basic organization of the human body, as well as the origin of birth defects.
- Prenatal vs Embryotic period
- embryonic period, during which the basic body plan is established, is the first 8 weeks of prenatal development. Embryotic period primarily a time of growth and maturation, is the remaining 30 weeks.

- Ectoderm and endoderm are epithelial tissues (sheets of closely attached cells).
