- HAUSTORIUM
- A hypha of a parisitic fungus which enters the host's cells, absorbing nutrition driectly from the cytoplasm.
- EXTRA-CELLULAR DIGESTION
- Digestion that takes place OUTSIDE of the cell.
- STOLON
- An aerial hypha that asexually reproduces to make nore filaments.
- RHIZOID HYPHA
- A hypha that IS imbedded in the material on which the fungus grows.
- FERMENTATION
- The anaerobic breakdown of sugars into alcohol, carbon dioxide & lactic acid.
- HYPHA
- Filament of fungal cells.
- MYCELIUM
- The part of the fungus responsible for EXTRA-CELLULAR DIGESTION & the absorption of the digested food.
- SPOROPHORE
- Specialized aerial hypha that produces spores.
- AERIAL HYPHA
- A hypha that is NOT imbedded in the material upon which the fungus grows.
- CHITIN
- A chemical that produces both toughness & flexibility.
