HAUSTORIUM
A hypha of a parisitic fungus which enters the host's cells, absorbing nutrition driectly from the cytoplasm.
EXTRA-CELLULAR DIGESTION
Digestion that takes place OUTSIDE of the cell.
STOLON
An aerial hypha that asexually reproduces to make nore filaments.
RHIZOID HYPHA
A hypha that IS imbedded in the material on which the fungus grows.
FERMENTATION
The anaerobic breakdown of sugars into alcohol, carbon dioxide & lactic acid.
HYPHA
Filament of fungal cells.
MYCELIUM
The part of the fungus responsible for EXTRA-CELLULAR DIGESTION & the absorption of the digested food.
SPOROPHORE
Specialized aerial hypha that produces spores.
AERIAL HYPHA
A hypha that is NOT imbedded in the material upon which the fungus grows.
CHITIN
A chemical that produces both toughness & flexibility.
