- developemental psychology
- the study of changes that occur as an individual matures
- grasping reflex

- rooting reflex
- an infant's response to move torward the the source of touching their mouth
- maturation
- the internally programmed growth of a child
- telegraphic speech

- schema
- a specific plan for knowing the world
- assimilation
- the process of fitting objects and experiences into one's schema
- accommodation
- the adjustments of one schema's to new experiences and events
- object permanence
- when a child realizes an object still exists even when it is hiden from site
- representational thought
- when the child has intellectual ability to visualize images
- conservation
- that a given quality does not change when the object changes shape
- egocentric
- a young child's inability to understand another persons perspective
- imprinting
- inherited tendencies or responses

- a time in development when skills are easier to learn

- children's games that include taking the role of an adult
