- pattern of rhymes on the last words in each line of a poem

- a direct comparison of two unlike things without using a specific word of comparison
- Hyperbole
- a figure of speech that is not to be taken literally
- Consonance
- repetition of consonant sounds in a poem
- Symbol
- people, places, or events that have meaning in themselves, but also stand for something else
- External Conflict
- a conflict that happens with two outside forces
- Irony
- when reality contradicts what we expect (verbal, situational, or dramatic)
- Allusion
- a reference to something in current events, or on TV, in history or lit, and so on.
