a term used to denote a canon of books, and, more widely, music and art, that has been the most influential in shaping Western culture
Intertextuality
references to other things, forms, genres in a given work : The Simpsons, the Scream series, gangsters watching The Godfather films in the Sopranos
Hybridity
mixing and sampling of different kinds and levels - hip-hop music, mockumentary films (Spinal Tap) - distinctions of high/pop culture are blurred
Low culture
a derogatory term for some forms of popular culture. The term is often encountered in discourses on the nature of culture. Its opposite is high culture. It has been said by culture theorists that both high culture and low culture are subcultures
Subjectivity
Proceeding from or taking place in a person's mind rather than the external world
Ambiguity
Doubtfulness or uncertainty as regards interpretation

Using something easy at hand for a tool it was not designed for
