- sometimes when coal is burned, sulfur dioxide is released. Also, acid precipitation which is rain or snow that has a high acid content due to air pollutants can affect the wildlife, plants, buildings or statues anywhere.
- how is coal formed
- it starts as bacteria, fungi or swamp plants. then it transforms into peat. then the sediment buries the peat by increasing the pressure and temperature. that turns the peat into lignite. hen the temperature and pressure continue to increase and it eventually forms coal. then with more heat and pressure the coal turns into anthracite.

- inexpensive. produces little pollution. renewable. not available everywhere.

- strip mining can desroy wildlife habitats. coal mines that are deep underground, can be hazardous to the men and women working in them.

- 70 percent of people liveing in developing countries heat their homes and cook their food by burning wood or charcoal.

- energy from the sun
