- adaptation
- A characteristic that helps an organism survive in its environment.
- biodegradable
- Material that microorganisms and fungi break down.
- consumer
- An animal that gets its energy by eating producers (plants) or other consumers (animals).
- deforestation
- The clearing of large numbers of trees.
- food chain
- The series of steps by which energy moves through an ecostystem, starting with producers.
- microscope
- A device that makes very small objects appear larger.
- parasite
- A creature that feeds off other creatures in order to survive.
- producer
- An organism that uses light energy from the sun to make food. Most producers are green plants.
- decomposer
- Organisms such as bacteria and mushrooms that help break down dead matter to get the energy they need.
- thermometer
- A tool used for measuring temperature.
