- pardon
- the act of excusing a mistake or offense
- imperial presidency
- president is seen as emperor taking strong actions without consulting Congress or seeking its approval
- commutation
- (law) the reduction in severity of a punishment imposed by law
- executive agreement
- a pact between the President and the head of a foreign state or between their subordinates
- persona non grata
- a person who for some reason is not wanted or welcome
- executive order
- a directive, rule, or regulation that has the effect of law
- amnesty
- grant a pardon to (a group of people)
- clemency
- leniency and compassion shown toward offenders by a person or agency charged with administering justice
- oath of office
- a promise the president makes on the day he takes office, pledging to "faithfully execute" the office and "preserve, protect, and defend" the Constitution

- article II of the constitution . establishes presedincy and gives the executive power of the Federal government to the president

- A President's cancellation of specific dollar amounts (line items) from a congressional spending bill; instituted by a 1996 congressional act, but struck down by a 1998 Supreme Court decision.

- a warrant granting postponement (usually to postpone the execution of the death sentence)
