- we percive that they have so much knowledge, they are the experts even if we are experts ourselves ( part of the halo effect)

- good communication skills, high level of organizing skill, somewhat flexible, combination of technical skill, expertise, and common sense, adept at assessing people, well read, open minded, unique individuals clear ideas, well articulated, think things through, good character, ethical standards
- punishment power
- to withhold anything that is meaningful to the follower.

- summarizes a lot of studies on leadership and why some people are seen as leaders more than others.

- someone with the power to influence your attitude or behavior or both ..... follow because you want to ( someone with the power to influence your attitude, behavior, motivation, and/or participation)

- Leaders derive their power from power bases. ( legitimate power, reward power, punishment power, expert power, referent power,and informational power)
