- Fragment
- part of a sentence punctuated as if it were a complete sentence. A sentence fragment is missing a subject, verb, or a complete thought
- Compound Sentence
- two independent clauses joined by a comma and a conjunction.
- Complete Predicate
- all words in a sentence that are not part of the complete subject.
- Comma Splice
- when two independent clauses are joined by only a comma.
- RUN-on
- two or more independent clauses (sentences) separated by only a comma or by no punctuation.
- Simple Subject
- the main word or words in the complete subject.
- Simple Predicate
- the verb or verb phrase in the complete predicate.
- Verb Phrase
- a main verb and one or more helping verbs.
- Independent Clause
- a complete sentence that can stand on its own.
- Sentence
- a group of words with a subject and verb that expresses a complete thought.
- Complete Subject
- all the words needed to tell whom or what a sentence is about
