- philology
- n. The study of language in connection with history and literature.
- derivative
- a word formed from another word or root, such as by adding a prefix or a suffix. something taken or received from a specified source. ADJ- made up of elements that have been borrowed from another source.
- phonology
- the study of the sound system of a given language and the analysis and classification of its phonemes
- rhetoric
- the art of using language effectively. the study of the elements uses in composition or discourse. insincere and pretentious language.
- cognate
- related by being derived, descended, or borrowed from the same word or root. a word, word part, or language that is related to another by common descent or derivation.
- orthography
- noun; the art or study of correct spelling according to established usage / the aspect of language study concerned with letters and their sequences with words / spelling
- syntax
- the way in which words are arranged or combined to form phrases, clauses, and sentences.
- diminutive
- a word that is formed with a suffix (such as -let or -kin) to indicate smallness
- inflection
