Structural Organization

Organisms-

Systems-

Organs-

Tissue-

4 types of cells-

cellular-

chemicals-
-all of the systems functioning together

-made of related organs with the same function
ex:digestive, circulator, muscular, nervous

-tissues joined together

-made up of a group of cells

-epithelial, muscle, connective, nervous

-made of molecules

-all chemical needed to maintain life
ex:C, H, O, N, Ca, K, Na
Metabolism
all chemical process that occurs in the body
catabolism
breakdown of large complex molecules to smaller simpler ones
ex: protein split into amino acids
Anabolism
uses the energy from catabolism to build the body's strucual or functional components
ex: syntesis of protein needed for muscle and bone
Responsiveness
ability to detect and respond to changes in the external environment
ex: nerves respond to electrical impulses
Movement
motion of whole body, individual organs or single cells
Growth
increase in size or number of cells
