- Element
- Any substance that cannot be broken down into a simpler substance.
- Atom
- The smallest particle of an element
- Compound
- Two or more elements chemically combined.
- Molecule
- Smallest part of a compound./ Two or more atoms chemically combined.
- Organic Compounds
- Compound that are, were or were made by organisms. Usually contain carbon.
- Inorganic Compounds
- Compounds produced without organisms. Usually lack carbon.
- Proteins
- Large organic molecules made mostly of C,H,O,N. Build cell parts and structures like muscle and skin.
- Amino Acids
- Twenty kinds of smaller molecules that join in a specific order to form a protein
- Enzymes
- Type of protein that speeds up chemical reactions.
- Carbohydrates
- Energy-rich organic compounds made of C,H,and O. Sugars and Starches
- Lipids
- Energy-rich organic molecules made of C,H and O. Build cell parts and store energy. Fats, oils and waxes.
- Nucleic Acids
- Organic nutrients found in cells. Carry cell instructions. DNA and RNA.
- Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA)
- Nucleic acid that is the genetic material in cells.
- Ribonucleic Acid (RNA)
- Nucleic Acid that helps produce proteins.
- Water
- Important inorganic nutrient necessary for cell reactions.
