- aneurism
- localized dilation of the wall of a blood vessel introducing risk of rupture
- arrhythmia
- irregularity or loss of rhythm of the heartbeat; aka “dysrhythmiaâ€
- arteriosclerosis
- thickening or hardening and loss of elasticity of artery walls
- Atherosclerosis
- form of thickening or hardening and loss of elasticity of artery walls caused by accumulation of fatty substances within the walls of arteries causing partial and eventually total occlusion
- Bruit
- soft blowing sound caused by turbulent blood flow
- Coronary Artery Disease
- abnormal conditions effecting heart arteries
- Deep Vein Thrombosis
- a blood clot in a deep vein of body
- Embolus
- mass of undissolved matter present in blood or lymphatic vessel
- Fibrillation
- irregular, random contraction of heartbeat
- Heart failure
- condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet body requirements
- hypertension
- consistently elevated blood pressure that is higher than normal, causing damage to blood vessels and heart
- ischemia
- decreased supply of oxygenated blood to a body part due to an interruption of blood flow
- mitral valve prlaps
- condition in which the flaps of the mitral valve prolapse into the left atrium resulting in complete closure and backflow of blood
- murmur
- abnormal sound caused by defects of values or chambers of heart.
- myocardial infarction
- necrosis of a portion of cardiac muscle caused by partial or complete occlusion of one or more coronary arteries
- patent ductus arteriosus
- failure of the ductus arteriosus to close after birth, resulting in abnormal opening between the pulmonary artery and the aorta
- raynand phenomenon
- numbness in toes and fingers due to intermittent constriction of arterioles of skin
- rheumatic heart disease
- streptococcal infection that causes damage to the heart valves and muscle
- stroke
- damage to the brain caused by interruption of blood supply due to blocked blood vessels or bleeding
- transient ischemic attack
- temporary interference with blood supply to brain not causing brain damage
- varicose veins
- swollen, distended veins caused by incompetent venous valves.
