- Form of gov't in which power rests with citizens who have the right to vote
- Patrician
- aristocratic landowning citizens
- Plebeian
- Common farmers, artisans and merchants Majority of the population. Not allowed into Senate.
- Tribune
- Elected representatives of assembly formed by Plebians

- Brilliant general from Carthage that fought against Rome in Punic War

- Roman General who planned attack on Carthage and allowed Rome to finally defeat Hannibal
- Rome
- Capital city of Roman Empire located on Tiber River, near the center of the Italian peninsula.
- Latins
- Farmers and shepards who wandered into Italy across the Alps around 1000 BC
- Forum
- Public meeting place below Palatine HIll that became the heart of political life.
- Tarquin the Proud
- Last Estruscan King who ruled Rome. He was a tyrant and was overthrown.
- Carthage
- City on Mediterranean located on peninsula on North African coast. Fought with Rome for Control of Mediterannean.
- Punic Wars
- War between Rome and Carthage from 246 to 146 BC
- Province
- Administrative unit overseas.
