- ECOSYSTEM
- A group of living things and their environment.
- HABITAT
- The part of an organism's environment that provides it with shelter.
- ORGANISM
- A living thing.
- SYSTEM
- Different kinds of organs that work together; some examples are the digestive system, the respiratory system, and the skeletal system.
- ORGAN
- A group of different kinds of tissues that work together; the heart is an organ.
- TISSUE
- A group of cells, all of the same kind, that work together; nerve tissue is an example.
- CELL
- The smallest living unit of an organism; every living thing is made up of one or more cells.
- LIFE PROCESS
- The activities that are necessary to keep living things alive and to keep species in existence.
- NUTRIENTS
- The foods a plant or animal needs to survive.
- EROSION
- The wearing away of Earth's soil by wind and water.
- CHLOROPHYLL
- The green material in plants that enables them to use sunlight to produce food from water and carbon dioxide.
- PHOTOSYNTHESIS
- The process that occurs when plants use chlorophyll and sunlight to convert water and carbon dioxide into a sugar.
- HERBIVORE
- An animal that eats mainly plants.
- OMNIVORE
- An animal that eats both plants and meats.
- CARNIVORE
- An animal that eats mainly meat.
- METAMORPHOSIS
- The set of changes that an insect and some other organisms go through as they develop from an egg to an adult.
- BIODEGRADABLE
- Capable of being broken down by decomposers.
- SPECIES
- A specific kind of living thing; a lion, tiger, and cheetah are all different species.
- FRUIT
- A structure of a plant in which seeds are found.
- PROPERTY
- A characteristic of an object; something you can observe such as color, shape, or size.
- DORMANT
- In a resting or inactive state.
- MOLD
- A slimy or cotton like growth that develops on moist materials that works to decompose them.
- GERMINATION

The beginning of development of a seed after a period of dormancy or rest.
This is when a seed sprouts roots and begins to grow. - MOLT
- The process by which crayfish and insects shed their outer shell in order to grow.
