- Aerobic phase of catabolism . Further oxidation of Pyurvate to Acetyl Co-A into H20 and C02. Cells comsume O2 and produce H20
- Cellular Respiration
- Pyurvate oxidized to Acytl Co A from this Enzyme. Co2 gas also formed
- PHD (Pyruvate dehydrogenase complex). Also called an oxidative decarboxylation. Irreversible oxidation.
- An ester of carboxylic acid with a thiol or mercatan
- Thioester
- A vitamin for some microorganisms; an intermediate carrier of hydrogen atoms and acyl groups in a-keto acid dehydrogenases
- Lipoate
- Movement of the chemical intermediates in a series of enzymcatalyzed reactions from the active site of one enzyme to that of the next enzyme in teh pahtway without leaving the surface of a protein complex that includes both enzymes.
- Substrate channeling
- A prosthetic group of cetain redox proteins invoved in electron transfers; Fe +2 or Fe+3. Bound to inorganic sulfur and teh Cys groups in the protein.
- Iron sulfur Center
- An enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of the terminal phosphate of a nucleoside 5'-triphosphate to a nucleoside 5-diphosphate
- Nucleoside diphosphate kinase
- Enzymes that catalyze condensations reactions in which no nucleoside triphosphate is required as an energy source
- Synthases
- Enzymes that catalyze condendation reactions in which no nucleoside triiphosphates is required as energy source.
- Synthetases
- Enzyme that catalyze condensation reactions in which two atoms are joined using the energy of ATP or naother energy rich compound
- Ligases
- Enzyme that catalyze the removal of a group from a molecule to form a double bond, or the additon of a group to a double bond.
- Lyases
- Enzymes that catalyze the phosphorylation of certain molecules of ATP
- Kinases
- Enzymes that catlyze phosphorylsis
- Phosphorylases
- Enzymes that hydrolyze a phosphate ester or anhydride, releasing inorganic phosphate Pi.
- Phosphatases
- A symmertric molecule that can react asymmertically with an enzyme having an asymmetric active site, generating a chiral product.
- Prochiral molecule
- A metobolic pathway used in both catabolism and anabolism
- Amphibolic pathway
- An enzyme catalyzed reaction that can replenish the supply of intermediates in the citric acid cycle.
- Analplerotic reaction
- A vitamin; an enzymatic cofactor involved in carboxylation reactions
- Biotin
- A supermolecular assembly of sequential metabolic enzymes.
- Metabolon
- A variant of the citric acid cycle, for the net conversion of acetate into succinate and, eventually, new carbohydrate, present in bacteria and some plant cells
- Glyoxylate cycle
