- translucent
- the characteristic of a material that allows some light to pass through, so that objects on the other side can be seen clearly
- image
- a picture of an object when light rays from the object are focused on a surface
- bioluminescence
- a giving off of light by a living organism, such as fireflies
- pupil
- the opening in the center of the iris, through which light enters the eye
- lens
- a piece of glass or other transparent material

- bouncing of a wave or ray off a surface, changing its direction

- the bending of waves when they change speed while passing from one material to another at an angle
- retina
- the inner membrane at the back of the eyeball, made up of several layers of cells that aresensative to the light and transmit the images entering the eye to the optic nerve

- a device that produces a beam of light consisting of light waves that are of the same wavelength and whose waves vibrate in the same direction

- an object of transparent material with three straight faces at an angle to each other which reflects visible light into a spectrum

- a lens that is thinner in the middle than it it at the edges, and curves inward
- spectrum
- a band of colors into which white light is separated accordinng to wavelength, by being passed through the prism or other material

- the characteristic of a material that does not allow light to pass through

- waves that are part of the eletromagnetic spectrum and can not be seen by the eyes; they have wavelengths shorter than those of visible light but longer than those of X-rays
