- Reflect
- bouncing of a wavew or ray off a surface, changing it's direction
- Retina
- the inner membrane at the back of the eyeball , made up of several layers of cells that are sensitve to light and transmit the images entering the eye to optic nerve
- Translucent
- the characteristic of a material that allows some light to pass through, so that objects on the other side can be seen clearly
- Spectrum
- a band of colors into which white light is seperated according to wavelength,by being passed through the prism or other material
- Laser
- a device that produces a beam of light consisting of light waves that are of the same wavelength and whose waves vibrate in the same directions
- Opaque
- the characteristic of a material that does not allow light to pass through
- Image
- a picture of an object when light rays from the object are focused on a surface
- convex lens
- a lens that is thicker in the middle than it is at the edges and curves outward
- Pupil
- the opening in the center of the ires, through which light enters the eye
- Ultraviolet
- waves that are part of the electromagnetic spectrum and can't be seen by the eyes; they have wavelengths shorter those of visible light but no longer than those of X-rays
- Concave lens
- a lens that is thinner in the middle than it is at the edges, and curves inward
- Lens
- a piece of glass or other thransparent material
- Bioluminescence
- a giving off of light by a living organism, such as fireflies
- Refraction
- the bending of waves when they change speed while passing from material to another at an angle
- Visible light
- the only part of the electromagnetic spectrum seen by the human eye
- Prism
- an object of transparent material with three straight faces at an angle to each other which reflects visible light into a spectrum
