Reflect
bouncing of a wavew or ray off a surface, changing it's direction
Retina
the inner membrane at the back of the eyeball , made up of several layers of cells that are sensitve to light and transmit the images entering the eye to optic nerve
Translucent
the characteristic of a material that allows some light to pass through, so that objects on the other side can be seen clearly
Spectrum
a band of colors into which white light is seperated according to wavelength,by being passed through the prism or other material
Laser
a device that produces a beam of light consisting of light waves that are of the same wavelength and whose waves vibrate in the same directions
Opaque
the characteristic of a material that does not allow light to pass through
Image
a picture of an object when light rays from the object are focused on a surface
convex lens
a lens that is thicker in the middle than it is at the edges and curves outward
Pupil
the opening in the center of the ires, through which light enters the eye
Ultraviolet
waves that are part of the electromagnetic spectrum and can't be seen by the eyes; they have wavelengths shorter those of visible light but no longer than those of X-rays
Concave lens
a lens that is thinner in the middle than it is at the edges, and curves inward
Lens
a piece of glass or other thransparent material
Bioluminescence
a giving off of light by a living organism, such as fireflies
Refraction
the bending of waves when they change speed while passing from material to another at an angle
Visible light
the only part of the electromagnetic spectrum seen by the human eye
Prism
an object of transparent material with three straight faces at an angle to each other which reflects visible light into a spectrum
