Fresco Secco
"True fresco," in which paint made simply of pigment and water is applied toa wet lime plaster.
Buon Fresco
A full-size drawing of the entire project that guides a work.
Cartoon
A mixture of white pigment and glue that scaled the wood and coule be sanded and rubbed to a smooth, ivorylike finish
Gesso
Thin, translucent veils of color applied over a thicker layer of underpainting.
Glazes
A technique in which the entire painting is completed first in black and white. From the French word for "gray."
Grisaille
Italian for "All in one go."
Alla Prima
Individual strokes of many different whites and tinted whites, as opposed to one single, uniform hue
