- non-fiction
- real information, true stories, reference materials. Labeled and shelved by the Dewey Decimal System
- research writing
- bannana study of a subject
- works cited page
- a list of all the sources cited in a research paper (sources you acknowledge by including parenthetical citations/internal citation)
- copyright page
- the year the book was published
- title page
- page at the beginning of a book that includes the title, the author, and the publisher
- index
- a list of all items a book covers located at the end of a book, in alphabetical order
- almanac
- a publication containing information for a specific year
- thesaurus
- a book of words and their synonyms and antonyms
- appendix/appendices
- extra information usually attached at the end of a paper (ex. a map)
- periodical
- work that is published in a fixed interval: daily, weekly, monthly
- table of contents
- a list of topics a book covers located at the beginning of the book, in number order, by chapter
- autobiography
- the story of someone's life written by the person himself or herself.
- biography
- the story of someone's life written by another person
- fiction
- stories that are not true. Labeled FIC and shelved alphabetically by author's last name

- a collection of maps
