In the beginning of a book or story, when the author introduces the setting, characters and conflict

captions, bold print, italicized words, titles, subtitles, graphs, headings, boxed information etc.

The writer's message to the reader, or the main idea of a story or poem

A point of view in which the narrator is not one of the characters and while telling the story tells the inner thoughts and feelings of only one of the characters

A syllable, (which has its own meaning), joined at the END of a word to change that word's mean and part of speech

The words underneath or beside a picture or photograph that describes what is in the picture
