- xylem
- tissue through which water and minerals flow up through the plant
- cortex
- a layer just inside the epidermis of roots and stems. It stores food.
- epidermis
- the outer-most layer of a root, stem, or leaf
- root cap
- a thin covering made up of cells. It protects the root tip as it grows into the soil.
- root hairs
- threadlik parts of cells on the surface of a root
- phloem
- tissue through wich food from the leaves moves down through a plant
- cambium
- a layer that seperates the xylem from the phloem. It is where the new xylem and phloem are made.
- transpiration
- water evaporates from the leaves, more water moves up through the plant
- photosynthesis
- plants food making process, hydrogen and carbon dioxide join in the prescence of sunlight and chlorophyll to form sugars and oxygen
- respiration
- the release of energy in plants and animals from food
- response
- what a living thing does as a result of a stimulus
- stimulus
- something in the environment that causes a living thing to react
- tropism
- a response of a plant toward or away from a stimulus
- adaptation
- a characteristic that enables a living thing to survive in its environment
