xylem
tissue through which water and minerals flow up through the plant
cortex
a layer just inside the epidermis of roots and stems. It stores food.
epidermis
the outer-most layer of a root, stem, or leaf
root cap
a thin covering made up of cells. It protects the root tip as it grows into the soil.
root hairs
threadlik parts of cells on the surface of a root
phloem
tissue through wich food from the leaves moves down through a plant
cambium
a layer that seperates the xylem from the phloem. It is where the new xylem and phloem are made.
transpiration
water evaporates from the leaves, more water moves up through the plant
photosynthesis
plants food making process, hydrogen and carbon dioxide join in the prescence of sunlight and chlorophyll to form sugars and oxygen
respiration
the release of energy in plants and animals from food
response
what a living thing does as a result of a stimulus
stimulus
something in the environment that causes a living thing to react
tropism
a response of a plant toward or away from a stimulus
adaptation
a characteristic that enables a living thing to survive in its environment
