- Tribute
- A payment or gift demanded by rulers of ancient kingdoms
- hieroglyphics
- A system of writing using pictures or symbols to represent objects, ideas, or sounds
- nomad
- A person who moves from place to lace looking for food for his or her animal herds
- pyramid
- A huge stone structure with a square base and four triangular sides that meet in a point at the top. Egyptian rulers were buried in the pyramids.
- pharoah
- A king of Ancient Egypt
- mummy
- A dead body kept from rotting by being treated with chemicals and wrapped in cloth
- papyrus
- a writing paper the Egyptians made from water plants of the same name
- colony
- A group of people who settle in a far-off land but are still under the rule of the land they came from
- siege
- The surrounding of a city by soldiers who are trying to capture it so that food, water, and other supplies cannot get in or out.
- navigate
- To plan the course of a ship; to sail or steer
- empire
- A group of lands ruled by the same government or ruler
