- Mitochondrion
- produces ATP; cellular reparation takes place here; O2 is used to break down glucose
- Golgi Body Apparatus
- membranous sac; complex organelle; where molecules made in other parts of the cell are modified, sorted, and packaged for export; tubules; hollow straws
- Flagellum
- used for movement (microtubules)
- Cytoskeleton
- extends throughout the cell providing structure and framework; made of fibers that extend through the cell; microtubules
- Nuclear Pore
- pore; opening in the nuclear envelope
- Vacuole
- sac of fluid; holds stored fluid like starch, pigments, and other products; sac made of membrane
- Cell Wall
- helps the plant cells maintain their shape; support tough "fibrous" polymer, cellulose
- Ribosomes
- site of protein synthesis; portions of __________ are made in the nucleus

- short thread like projections that are usually used for locomotion or to move something past the cell

- (plasma membrane) covers the outside of the cell; covers the outside of the cell; controls what enters and leaves; phospholipid bilayer that is embedded with proteins
- Chloroplast
- (plastid) site of photosynthesis; light energy from the sun is converted into chemical energy (glucose)
- Nucleolus
- center of the nucleus; area in the nucleus where parts of ribosomes are made
- Lysosomes
- membranous sac containing digestive enzymes
- Peroxisome
- contains catalase or some other oxidative enzyme; very numerous in animal liver
- Microvilli
- Short stubby finger-like projects from cell membrane; function in absorption
- Centrioles
- involved in cell division; they are not in plant cells
- Nucleoplasma
- found surrounding the nucleolus
- Cytoplasm
- contains water, salt, and organic molecules, including enzymes; where metabolism takes place
- Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum
- endoplasmic reticulum that is studed with ribosomes
- Endoplasmic Reticulum
- System of membranes, tunnels, and sacs that lies outside the nucleus and extends through interior of cell site where most of new membrane is produced
