- joint with no synovial cavity, bones held together cartilage
- cartilaginous joints
- have a synovial cavity, dense irregular connective tissue and often accessory ligament
- synovial joints
- an immovable jont
- synarthrosis
- slightly movable joint
- amphiathrosis
- freely movable joint
- diarthrosis
- fibrous joint composed of a thin layer of dense irregular connective, only in the skull
- suture
- a suture that is present during childhood but replaced by adult skull
- synotosis
- a fibrous joint in which there is a greater distance between the articulating surfaces and more dense irregular connective tissue
- syndesmosis
- form of syndesmoses in which a cone-shaped peg fits into a socket
- gomophosis/ dentoaveolar
- fibrous joint, big sheet of dense irregular connective tissue that binds neighboring long bones
- interosseous membane
- a cartilaginous joint in which the connections are with hyaline cartilage
- sychondrosis
- cartilaginuous joint in which the ends of the articulating bones are covered with hyaline cartilage, BUT fibrocartilage connects the bones
- symphysis
- the bones at a synovial joint are covered by ths layer of hyaline cartilage
- articular cartilage
- a sleevelike structure that unites the articulating bones and surrounds the synovial joint
- articular capsule
- surrounds a synovial joint, encloses the synovial cavity and unites articulating bones
- articular capsule
- usally consists of dense irregular tissue that attaches to he periosteum between the bones
- fibrous membrane
- fiber bundles
- ligaments
- is composed of areolar connective tissue with elastic fibers, inner layer of the articular capsule
- synovial membrane
- an accumulation of adipose tissue at many synovial joints
- articular fat pads
- the synovial mebrane secretes a clear or yellow fluid named for its similarity in apperance
- synovial fluid
- saclike structues strategically situated to alleviate friction in some joints
- bursae
- tubelike bursae that wrap around certain tendons
- Tendon(synovial) sheaths
